This subject examines the development of school music teaching in Australia. The development of both primary and secondary music curricula will be considered. The subject will cover the nineteenth and twentieth centuries with discussion of the differences and similarities in the different Australian colonies/states. The European background to the Australian situation will be considered. Methodological movements and curricular debates will also be discussed.
