Issues in arts education

This subject aims to increase students' knowledge and understanding of factors influencing arts education in the primary school. It will assist them to become aware of the significant issues, changes and developments within their chosen field and help them to become conversant with trends in arts education. Students will also become aware of the importance of acquiring advocacy and communication skills. Issues which may be addressed during the subject include cultural and environmental influences on arts education; needs of pupils and schools; needs of parents and communities; the roles of teacher-training institutions, arts specialists, the Ministry of Education, arts advisers and consultants; arts advocacy; acquisition of resources; trends and implications for the future.
