The management of staff in educational organisations

This subject is designed to introduce students to the theoretical and research literature relevant to the study of the management of staff in educational organisations. Approaches to understanding how people behave in organisations will be examined. Specific topics addressed in the subject will include the evolution of management thought; motivation and teacher satisfaction; interpersonal relationships in the work setting; teacher participation in decision making; the management of conflict; the development of teamwork; school climate, culture and ethos; and the individual and the system. The program will be conducted through lectures, seminars, working groups and student presentations. A detailed reading list will be distributed at the first class.
