This subject is concerned with policy on the planning and financing of education. It focuses on the interaction between education and the economic system. The subject aims to outline the major approaches, interpret key issues in the economics and financing of education, and assist students to develop their research skills. Topics considered will include the funding of education; efficiency and quality in education, equity in educational resource distribution; teachers and the economy; education and the needs of the economy for skilled and technologically trained workers; education and unemployment; education and income.
