Clinical studies in exceptionality

Second semester * Clayton * Prerequisites: An approved four-year sequence in psychology * Quota: 10

This subject focuses on the clinical study of exceptional children and adolescents. Attention will be given to both disabled and able, and talented persons. Areas covered will include definitions and basic concepts, aetiology, characteristics and classification, psychological and educational assessment and diagnosis, instructional and management planning and the delivery of special services in a variety of settings including institutions, hospitals, clinics, centres and schools.

Assessment

Written (2000 words): 30% * Practical work/essay to be a critical review of an issue relevant to the assessment and/or management of exceptional persons * The practicum will require working with an exceptional person * Case study to include diagnostic assessment, diagnosis, program planning and management: 70%
