Technological skills in research
Dr S McNamara
First and second semester * Full-year subject * Clayton
This subject focuses on the development of research skills involving the use of technology, particularly computers, that will facilitate the conduct, reporting and presentation of high-quality research. A variety of modules will be offered, and students will have the opportunity to select those that best meet their research needs. Each module will be self-contained, will typically involve nine to fifteen hours of instruction, and will be separately assessed. Assessment tasks will require the production of research output using the skills developed in the module. Credit for the subject will be granted when modules totalling forty-five class hours have been completed satisfactorily. The subject is a one-semester unit running over two semesters. Modules offered include introduction to the PC; word processing; literature searching; SPSSX on the main frame; statistical analysis on a PC; graphic representation for report and research writing. A full calendar of modules will be available at the commencement of the program.
