Methods and practice of teaching music A

2 hours per week * Full-year subject * Clayton * Prerequisites: Music major and audition

This subject is intended to prepare students for the teaching of music in post-primary schools and deals with current issues in class music teaching. A wider range of methodologies, content, resources and music education principles are considered. Readings will be distributed at the beginning and throughout the year. Selections of appropriate material will be made by the lecturer based on the background of the students. A major sequence in music and an audition (at the discretion of the lecturer) to assess the practical abilities of the applicant. To verify suitability of music qualifications for employment purposes in the Department of School Education schools, contact should be made with the assistant manager (qualifications), Recruitment Unit.
