3 hours per week * Full-year subject * Clayton * Prerequisites: Students taking this course must have at least a minor sequence in history or a major sequence in ancient history from a recognised institution. Please note that the history subjects must have been studied as a history discipline.

All students seeking to undertake this subject are advised to note the general information concerning prerequisites for methods and practice of teaching subjects given in the outline of course GED0001. In particular, students should ascertain the suitability of their qualifications in history for employment with the appropriate employing authorities. This subject is concerned with the development of skills for the teaching of history in the secondary school. Students are expected to develop an understanding of the contribution which the study of history can make to the education of secondary school students. Relevant teaching strategies are explored as are curriculum and course development issues, especially as these relate to the frameworks for social education, P-12, VCE history and the national curriculum.
