This subject extends further the studies undertaken in GED0515. Students will further develop their understanding of children's language and literacy development. They will consider recent research in literacy and literature teaching and examine the ways in which such research informs classroom teaching in English. Students will investigate different classroom settings which encourage children to develop as effective language-users, and consider how different teaching approaches and programs can be planned flexibly to cater for children at different stages of development and with different language needs. Students will be encouraged to reflect on their own practice, both as learners within the profession, and as beginning teachers with responsibilities for the students they teach.
