Curriculum studies: outdoor education

Subject value 1.0 * 3 hours per week equivalent * First semester * Gippsland/Distance * Prerequisites: DipT or GradDipEd or BTeach

The subject will focus on the development of outdoor education and the principles and practices of its delivery in the school curriculum. Areas of study will be selected from pursuit skills, leadership, safety and legal responsibility, programming, environmental studies and personal development outcomes. The subject will enable students to take an applied approach to the subject area. It is expected that students will take a participatory approach in the completion of the project assessment task (students not able to take part in school camps will negotiate with the adviser to identify suitable settings). The subject is taught by study guides, lectures, selected readings and workshops.

Assessment

Review of literature: 30% * Assignment: 30% * Project: 40%
