Alternatives in education

BC GD PD BP

Subject value 1.0 * 2 hours per weekend school and 5 hours per vacation school * Second semester * Gippsland/Distance * Prerequisites: DipT or GradDipEd or BTeach

This subject explores the alternatives in education as accounted for in free schooling, open schooling and deschooling. The main issues are the extent to which the alternatives are rationalised, justifiable and practised. Past students have found the subject useful for mapping alternatives and modifications to existing educational practices, particularly in respect of curriculum design. The subject is taught by study guide materials, films, selected readings, self-evaluation exercises and tutorial and seminar sessions designed to stimulate critical inquiry into educational options.

Assessment

One major essay: 60% * One seminar paper: 40%
