Mathematics, science and computing education I
First semester * Peninsula
The subject aims to develop students' understanding of, and appreciation for, skills in teaching mathematics and science and the use of computers in the primary classroom. It is divided into three components. (1) Mathematics education (50%) is a participatory component and requires regular attendance to develop a thorough understanding of the rational underlying the teaching of mathematics in the primary school. (2) Science education (25%): emphasises science teaching and learning and provides students with opportunities to participate in practical workshops. (3) Computers in education (25%) looks at the development of a conceptual model of a computer system, types of computers, computer applications, the role of computers in primary education, teaching about computers and teaching with computers.
Assessment
Each component has its own assessment based on the following percentages - Practical work/fieldwork/laboratory work: 35% * Examinations: 65% * A satisfactory standard must be reached in all areas to gain a pass
