Child development

3 hours per week * First semester * Peninsula

A comprehensive examination of the critical factors involved in the development of young children 0-12 with particular emphasis on the development of children 0-8 years. Theories relating to the influences of genetic and environmental factors on development will be examined. Other topics will include the development of language; the role of play in children's overall development; attachment theories and separation anxiety; parenting styles and their implications; motivation theories and their application to develop children's programs; the development of children's perception of self; the development of locus of control in young children and an introduction to children with special needs.

Assessment

Class test: 40% * Examinations: 60%
