Studies in teaching 5 (early childhood)

2 hours per week * First semester * Peninsula * Prerequisites: Pass in first year EDN1115/1125 (Studies in teaching 1/2 (early childhood))

Strand A: This strand will build on the program planning introduced in EDN1125. Topics related to planning will include observing and planning to meet needs of individual children, setting long and short term objectives, developmentally appropriate practices, the importance of play, and planning and teaching in the outdoor area. Other areas addressed will be settling-in procedures, fostering sociodramatic play, and devising culturally appropriate anti-bias cirriculum and materials. Strand B: Twenty to thirty days of supervised practice teaching including five days at the beginning of the preschool year. In addition students will undertake thirty hours of voluntary teaching in such capacities as teacher's aid within special settings and play leaders within hospital play programs. Students will also carry out observations and field tasks at preschools for one-half day each week for eight weeks.

Class test 40% * Child study folio: 60% * Pass in field work
