2 hours per week * First semester * Peninsula

The study of oracy as the foundation of children's language growth with particular emphasis on its extension into all areas of the curriculum. Poetry and drama as features of language, and personal and social development. An examination of the writing process including the place of spelling and handwriting in the curriculum. Techniques used in the observation and evaluation of children's writing. Teaching strategies to assist children in learning to write across the curriculum. An introduction to fiction and non-fiction literature - including Aboriginal stories - suitable for children. An examination of the teaching approaches used in the presentation of literature in the classroom.

Assessment

Class test: 40% * Examinations: 60%
