Primary mathematics education 1

3 hours per week * Second semester * Peninsula

This subject is offered only to students of early childhood. It is a participatory subject and requires regular attendance to develop a thorough understanding of each content area. The mathematics topics build upon those covered in EDN1905, extending the study of activities related to precounting, sorting and classifying, early number concepts, the structure of our number systems and various areas of measurement. The subject aims to develop the necessary skills related to the teaching of the process of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Teaching techniques and methods aimed at making mathematics more realistic and applicable to everyday use are given special emphasis with the introduction of problem-solving techniques and cooperative group learning.

Assessment

Written: 30% * Examination: 70%
