Human biology 1: the human organism I

3 hours per week * First semester * Peninsula

This subject is designed for students with little background in biology who wish to study the structure and function of the human body in health and disease. The aim of the subject is to develop in students an understanding of the cellular basis of human life and the role played by various body systems in maintaining life functions. The topics include the levels of body organisation, body movement, blood and the transport system, and body inputs and outputs. The subject will also introduce students to some importance human diseases of the body systems, examined with a particular emphasis on personal health issues.

Assessment

Assignment: 20% * Practical work: 30% * Examinations: 50%
