Disability support services

Monash University has a strong commitment and obligation under commonwealth and state anti-discrimination legislation to provide equal access to higher education for people with disabilities and long-term medical conditions. Comprehensive support services, equipment and facilities are available to enrolled students under the Monash University Disability Support (MUDS) program.

MUDS program services include early advice (pre application), assistance with the enrolment process and orientation to Monash services, course and research materials in alternative formats (eg braille, large print, audio), assistance in accessing the learning environment (note takers, scribes, sign language interpreters), alternative assessment or examination arrangements, advocacy (representation, grievance procedures), provision of specialised equipment (eg software, hearing loops, furniture), and personal support (attendant carers).

The MUDS program is coordinated by the Disability Liaison Office which is located in the Gallery building, Clayton campus, with links to all campuses. More detailed information on the program can be found in the Green Guide (Resource and Access guide for people with disabilities). The Green Guide includes a comprehensive list of more than forty services and facilities. For a copy of the Guide or a confidential appointment visit the Disability Liaison Office at Clayton or telephone Gill Bruce, Anne Scott or Annette Rudd on 03 905 5704 or TTY 03 905 5391. For students on the Gippsland campus or studying by distance education, telephone the disability officer, Lisa Matthews, on 051 22 6425 (local callers) or 03 902 6425 (other areas).
