Advanced topics in knowledge engineering

The syllabus will vary from time to time, depending on current developments in knowledge engineering. The theme in 1995 will be the application of knowledge-based systems in decision support. Issues of knowledge representation and the manipulation of uncertainty, the relationship between KBS and other components of the corporate information system, particularly the database, issues of decision making and the role of an intelligent adviser in decision making will be addressed. Students will explore the concepts discussed in classes by building a knowledge-based system in the context of a decision support application.

Assessment

Written (3000 words): 50% * Practical work: 50%
