6 points * 4 hours per week * First/Second semester * Caulfield * Prerequisites: SYS3104

The subject will extend the student's knowledge of systems analysis, specifically in the area of ill-defined requirements analysis or analysis of `soft' problems. This will be done by discussing complexity and the extent of certainty in an information systems context. Differing perceptions of models and of their usefulness in problematical situations will lead into an examination of Soft Systems Methodology (SSM). The techniques used in SSM-based analysis will be taught and applied to cases in industry and government. Examples of socio-technical development methods will be discussed.
