This subject provides students with an understanding of the nature of executive information systems (EIS) and the issues which need to be considered in their development. Students will review a number of recent case studies and will be involved in building a prototype EIS using specialist tools. Topics include the definition of an EIS; review of the nature of managerial work; lessons from previous attempts at supplying information to management; critical issues in EIS development; alternative EIS development methodologies; methods for capturing and specifying EIS requirements; EIS design issues; factors in evaluating EIS technologies; EIS implementation; the question of maintaining an EIS; evaluating EIS projects.
