Summary of undergraduate studies

Bachelor of Business Systems

Clayton campus

The Bachelor of Business Systems degree, which can be completed in three years of full-time study, may be taken by students who have passed the VCE or Year 12 equivalent. The prerequisites for units 1 and 2 of the course are two units of VCE mathematics. The prerequisites for units 3 and 4 are a grade average of D in English.

The pass degree covers both compulsory and optional subjects selected from the set of business systems subjects plus subjects chosen from those offered by other departments. Business systems subjects occupy three-quarters of first year and approximately half of second and third year. An honours program is available for students who perform well in their final year.

Two streams are offered, a normal stream and a scholarship stream.

The number of scholarships awarded is dependent on the number of sponsors available. In 1995, approximately twenty scholarships will be awarded to first-year students. Approximately ten additional scholarships will be awarded in 1995 to non-scholarship students completing first year.

Selection of scholarship students is based on students' VCE results and an interview. Scholarships will be restricted to Australian resident school leavers.

In the scholarship stream a total of ten months will be spent in industry-based learning.

The current intake to the course is eighty students per year plus a number of international students.

Non-scholarship students will be required to take elective subjects when the scholarship students are in the two industry-based learning periods.

The Bachelor of Business Systems degree is accredited by the Australian Computer Society. Students taking the accounting specialisation may apply for membership of the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants and the Institute of Chartered Accountants. Students interested in this specialisation should consult with the faculty concerning subject choices.
