On completion of this subject, students should be familiar with operations management in manufacturing and service industries. Students will have been introduced to computer-based information systems and various techniques used in operations management. This subject, which provides a basis for further studies in operations management, includes the following topics. Operations management and business strategy. Operations management and financial calculations. Operations management in manufacturing companies: inventory control and MRP, production scheduling, line balancing, distribution management, quality management, maintenance, Just-in-Time systems, software systems. Project management. Operations management in service organisations. Facility location and layout. The ISO 9000 standards. Electronic data interchange and barcoding.
