Community information (archives, records and librarianship)
First semester * Clayton
This subject focuses on archival and recordkeeping needs and services in the community at large, including recordkeeping in community organisations, archives in a multicultural society, the archives of women's and minority groups, oral history and documentation programs. It includes some comparative overseas case studies and also looks at the community involvement programs of government, corporate and collecting archival institutions in Australia, as well as the role of public libraries and museums. It aims to equip students with the skills required to provide community-based records and archives services. A program of guest speakers and visits to community organisations, archival and other relevant institutions complements the subject.
