Computers in the health care setting

1.5 points * 2 hours per week for 8 weeks * Second semester * Gippsland * Note: This subject is not available to computing students

Students will have a basic understanding of information technology; study the use of the computer as a tool for nursing practice and patient care delivery; consider some of the issues and implications of computer usage in the health care system. The subject includes: computer concepts - hardware and software; using computers - hospital information systems, computer applications in health care; computers in society - impact of information technology in the health care setting; practical component - use of computer applications packages (word processing, spreadsheet, database).

Assignments: 50% * Examination: 50%

Recommended texts

Any text on computer applications with DOS, WordPerfect 5.1, database management system software (eg dBASEIII+), and spreadsheet software (eg Lotus 1-2-3 or equivalent).
