Professional communications

6 points * Two hours of lectures and three hours of tutorials per week * First semester * Clayton * Prohibitions: BUS2030, SYS2204

Introduction to communication and theories of communication; effective listening; note taking during oral presentations; basic library research skills; non-verbal communication; use of the telephone. Presentations: organisation and planning, audience and objective, clear exposition, preparation, use of visual aids, the mechanics of effective presentations. Computer-aided visuals: spreadsheet graphics, statistical graphics, paint/draw graphics, textual graphics. Multimedia presentations. Meetings: planning, preparation, roles and leadership, getting results. Special meeting techniques: interviewing and being interviewed, negotiations, selling, technical reviews, team building.
