Introduction to computer systems and the different roles which individuals play in the computer industry. Computer and communications hardware, with an emphasis on office technology. Data: presentation, storage devices and capabilities. Software: types of operating systems, application development, packaged software, turn-key systems. Files and file organisation. Social issues. Quality and the need for standards. Communication standards and Australian telecommunications. Selection and installation of computer systems.

Assessment

Examination: 50% * Practical work: 50%
