Data communication - various contemporary issues such as layered protocols, a review of objectives, X.400 messaging standard, X.500 directory services, network analysis and design, EDI in Australia. Distributed databases - various contemporary issues including data model partitioning, fragmentation, replication issues, query optimisation, concurrency control, restart and recovery, distributed design.

Assessment

Written (3000 words): 50% * Practical work: 50%
