Admission to the honours program normally requires a credit average in third-year computing study. Entry to the honours program may be quota restricted. Each honours student undertakes study of four subjects and a substantial project. The project includes a written thesis, an oral presentation and possibly a computer system design and implementation. The grade for the year's work is assessed as 50 per cent thesis and 12.5 per cent per subject. Normally, students will undertake two COT4xxx, SFT4xxx or SYS4xxx subjects per semester. The actual program of study will be determined in consultation with the coordinator and the student's thesis supervisor. One level-three or level-five COT subject may be substituted. The Department of Computer Technology runs a seminar program throughout the year. Honours students are expected to attend all seminars.
