Computing and information technology (honours)

P McKenzie

Peninsula

The honours program is made up of 50 per cent coursework and 50 per cent for a thesis. The coursework involves four subjects and participation in the department's research seminar program. The thesis includes a number of oral presentations and may include the development of computer software. The actual thesis topic may be suggested by the school or by the student, subject to approval by the school. The department conducts a regular research seminar program involving staff, research students and invited experts. Attendance at this program is mandatory for all honours students. Honours students will normally undertake two subjects per semester; with the approval of the head of school, up to one third-, fourth- or fifth-year subject offered by any department within the faculty may be substituted. Fourth-year subjects offered by the department vary from year to year but the topics covered during 1995 are expected to include graphical user interfaces, software quality and metrics, database system architecture, conceptual schema and relational database design and CASE technology.
