Introduction to quality variables; quality measurement; quality as an attribute. Simple representations of quality data. Pareto chart. Control charts for continuous variables including mean and range charts. Process capability analysis. Process control. Design and analysis of experiments. Acceptance sampling. Use of analysis of variance in process capability studies. Quality-cost analysis. Application of personal computer software in quality management. Reliability definition. Statistics of reliability, failure probability density and hazard functions. Weibull and Hastings distributions. Preventive replacement using age-based and block policies. Capital equipment life-cycle costing and replacement planning. Applications of personal computer software reliability and replacement.

Assessment

Written: 20% * Examination (2 hours): 80%
