This subject is designed to develop an insight into managerial working and cognitive styles; to develop principles of design of managerial decision support systems; to develop an approach to the simulation of business systems for the purpose of determining the effect of different policies on the operation of the system. A subsidiary aim is to provide students with opportunities to develop research and formal writing skills. The course will provide students with opportunities to examine the applications of decision support systems and related techniques. Topics presented include the nature of managerial work, different ways people have of acquiring and processing information, DSS design principles and simulation model development. Students will be expected to read widely from current literature and to present their findings in oral presentations and written work.

Essay (3000 words): 15% * Simulation model: 15% * Examination (2 hours): 70%
