Database systems and data management II

This subject is designed to introduce students to the fundamental concepts necessary for the planning, design, use and implementation of database systems. The main topics covered include motivation for the database approach, conceptual modelling, coverage of logical data models (hierarchical, network and relational data models) and the use of SQL and other facilities provided by database management systems.

Assessment

Assignment 1 (fact-oriented modelling): 20% * Assignment 2 (database planning and design): 20% * Examination (2 hours): 60% * Note that a pass on the examination is required to pass the subject
