Applications from mature-age students are assessed on the basis of education and employment background. The lack of formal qualifications should not deter an inquiry. Where appropriate, applicants should provide a letter of support from their employer.
Technology requirements
It is recommended that students should have access to a personal computer. (Please note that the School of Business - Gippsland operates in an IBM-compatible windows environment.) It is also recommended that students have access to a modem to facilitate e-mail communication with teaching staff.
Credit for work done elsewhere
A student will be exempted from any subject where an equivalent subject has already been completed at post-secondary level. In such cases a student must select an additional elective subject(s) in substitution for the subject(s) exempted. Application for credit for partially completed courses will be determined on a case by case basis.
It is essential that subjects submitted for credit and exemption fit the philosophy and principles of this associate diploma course of study. Subjects studied more than ten years ago are regarded as beyond a reasonable time limit for applicability and generally will not be considered for credit/exemption.
Fees
HECS
The Higher Education Contribution Scheme (HECS) requires contributions to be made by students towards the cost of their higher education studies commenced after 1 January 1989. The amount to be contributed depends on the study load (subjects) undertaken each semester, and is payable whether or not a pass in each subject is achieved. More detailed information relating to HECS can be obtained from the Student Administration Office, Monash University, Gippsland Campus, Churchill, Victoria 3842.
Industry partnerships
The Federal Government provides funds to assist industry to improve productivity through the development of skills in education-industry partnerships, and at the same time enable employees to engage in tertiary education. The School of Business - Gippsland is able to access these funds by forming partnerships with employers to facilitate employee participation in the Associate Diploma programs. Costs are shared and, in this arrangement, the School of Business - Gippsland offers flexibility in delivery mode. In particular, on-campus or on-site lectures and tuition, distance education or a combination of these can be negotiated.
