The course
This eight-subject course has been designed to develop the managerial skills of people involved in customer-oriented organisations. The essential functional knowledge and competencies required by generalist managers is addressed. As well students develop an understanding of managerial roles needed to manage organisations competitively including managing people, change, innovation and quality.
Students who complete the Graduate Diploma with a grade C or higher fulfil the preliminary year requirements for the masters degree of organisational systems.
Objectives
On completion of the course, students will:
* have gained the knowledge and skills necessary to understand the systemic nature and underlying dynamics of organisations;
* act effectively on the implications of this understanding;
* understand the need for effective leadership and how best to manage their own development as leaders.
Venue
Part-time classes are offered in evening, weekend, or block teaching modes at Caulfield campus.

Course structure
The course for the graduate diploma shall consist of eight subjects (six compulsory subjects and two electives):

* MGM6700 Managing people and organisations
* MGM6720 Managing in a changing environment
* MGM6760 Strategic planning and management
* MKT6780 Marketing concepts and strategies
* MGM6940 Managerial competencies
The one elective can be chosen from the following:
* MGM6851 Human resource management issues
* MGM6880 Managing quality and productivity
* MGM6890 Information management
