The course

This fee paying part-time course aims to provide, through the study of existing Syme Faculty subjects for the Graduate Diploma in Business Management (or their equivalents) an accredited, flexible, portable postgraduate program of study in management for qualified junior and middle managers in the public and private sectors.

Objectives

On completion of the course students should:

* gain an introductory level experience in the principles of management in a complex and rapidly changing environment;

* be familiar with the key competencies required by the generalist manager;

* have an understanding of the processes by which managers can influence individual and group performance in organisations.

Venue

The course will be offered on campus or `in house'.

Credit for work done elsewhere

Please refer to the course regulations for the Graduate Certificate in Management for details relating to credit transfers.

Course structure

The graduate certificate shall comprise four subjects of which a core of three subjects must be chosen from the following list of subjects from the Graduate Diploma in Business Management. A candidate may select, as the fourth subject, an elective unit from the postgraduate elective subjects or other postgraduate course of study offered by the faculty.

* MGM6700 Managing people and organisations

* MGM6851 Human resource management issues

* MGM6880 Managing quality and productivity

* MGM6890 Information management

* MGM6940 Managerial competencies

* MKT6780 Marketing concepts and strategies
