Objectives On completion of this subject students should be able to explain the need to monitor current business issues which impinge on business competitiveness; identify aspects of a businesses operation which could provide opportunity for competitive advantage; discuss a range of current business issues and their relative importance to competitive advantage.
Synopsis This subject is a core subject in the Bachelor of Business degrees offered by all departments, divisions and schools of the Syme Business. It will normally be taken in the third year of the course. The subject is designed to sensitise students as future business leaders, to the need to be identifying continually the issues which affect a firm's ability to compete effectively, and to provide an appreciation of a range of current issues from which competitive advantage is derived. The issues selected for special emphasis are drawn from four disciplines of the faculty. The issues and their relative importance will change with environmental circumstances; in each semester they will reflect present business concerns, philosophies and best practice.
