Synopsis At the end of this subject participants should be able to show an understanding of the regulatory environment in which transport in Australia needs to be managed; select the most appropriate international or domestic transport mode and carrier for a given task; explain the documentation used in transport, especially international transport; decide whether to own or contract the transport function; decide when to replace a vehicle cost-effectively; manage the transport-warehouse interface; calculate the optimum number of vehicle docks for a warehouse; negotiate effectively for freight rates, transport services or vehicles; measure performance of the transport function; use a range of quantitative techniques to meet the above objectives.
