Warehousing management

Synopsis At the end of the subject participants should be able to decide whether to own their own warehouse or contract out the warehousing function; determine the number of warehouses in a distribution network and decide where they should be located; design a warehouse and select appropriate equipment and technology; determine the most appropriate shipper design for given goods; prepare a contingency plan for a warehouse operation; prepare a plan for negotiating the introduction of technology into an existing operation; show an understanding of the issues involved in the storage of hazardous goods and the occupational well-being of the workforce; measure the performance of the warehousing function; use a range of quantitative techniques to meet the above objectives.

Assessment Individual site visit analysis report: 10% * Syndicate case study presentation: 10% * Individual major assignment (4000words): 40% * Class test: 40%
