Special studies in logistics

6 points * One week block * First semester * Peninsula * Prerequisites: successful completion all subjects in Graduate Diploma in Logistics Management

Synopsis This subject aims to give students first hand experience of new developments in logistics and provide them with the opportunity of studying problems and applying theory in real and simulated environments; provide a thorough analysis of logistics in manufacturing and service environments; critically and realistically appraise the applicability of theory in a chosen task area; demonstrate an understanding of the practicalities of managing logistics across the supply chain.

Materials and logistics management; marketing and customer service; logistics channels' customer satisfaction; distribution management; inventory management; transportation; warehousing decisions; procurement and sourcing strategies; logistics information technology; supply partnerships; distribution planning; logistics organisation; human resources management.

Assessment A comprehensive report written by the student at the end of the study period (6000 words): 60% * Progress reports by the student, including maintaining a diary of activities: 10% * Evaluation by the sponsoring group: 30%
