Information management and quantitative decision-making

Synopsis The aims of this subject are to develop an understanding of information technology and information management in a manufacturing and general environment; to develop an appreciation of the role of information technology in enhancing an organisation's business strategy and competitive advantage, nationally and internationally; to understand how information technology affects an organisation's clients, customers, suppliers and the community; to prepare managers to direct and cooperate with information systems professionals in identifying, selecting and managing a manufacturing information system; to develop an understanding of the principles of operations research and quantitative methods which may have an application in a manufacturing environment; appreciate the use of computer software packages in these manufacturing applications; understand the potential for the application of operations research in manufacturing; develop the ability to select a method of solution for a specific problem.

Assessment Assignment (5000words): 40% * Final examination (3 hours): 60%
