Managing quality and productivity

Synopsis The aim of this subject is to provide the students with an understanding of the importance of quality (and productivity) management in creating and maintaining a competitive advantage for an organisation. The subject provides detailed knowledge and understanding of the strategic issues concerning quality and many of the tools and techniques used in the management of quality and productivity. On completing this subject, students will be able to develop a quality-based strategy for an organisation. Topics covered in this subject include customer orientation, customer-supplier relationships, variation and its management, quality costs, statistical methods, employee involvement, senior management commitment and management for continuous improvement. The several measures of productivity will be defined and methods of improving productivity explored in the context of the Australian environment.
