Managing employee relations

Synopsis This subject is designed to provide students with a knowledge and understanding of Australia's industrial relations system, within an international framework. It will encourage students to consider the implications of changes which have occurred in Australia's industrial relations at the enterprise level in the 1980s and the opportunities for change in the 1990s. A related aim is to introduce students to differences and similarities in employee and industrial relations. Topics include award structures, employment contracts, enterprise bargaining, union organisation, management, policy development in the field of workplace reform. Students will be encouraged to read journals, newspapers and current publications to ensure they are up-to-date with the industrial relations scene.

Assessment Assignment (5000words): 45% * Class activities: 15% * Final examination (2.5 hours): 40%
