People development and management

Ms Fern Marriott

3 hours per week * Caulfield

Synopsis Many of the technologies appropriate to internationally competitive manufacturing are well understood even if they are not widely put into practice in Australia. The area of people management is, however, much less well understood and even more badly practised. Responsibility for people development is the lead into this subject, followed by the changing culture of organisational life. These topics provide a basis for strategic planning for human resource management and for the vital relationship between HR strategies and the other strategies of the manufacturing organisation. Skill and experience development and training methods with attention to computer-based training (CBT) techniques is a central issue for this subject. Then follows motivation and the role of incentives, industrial relations, award restructuring, management and work practice improvement.

Assessment Two assignments: 30% each * One assignment: 40%
