Cross-cultural communication and negotiations

Objectives On completion of this subject students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the role communication and negotiations play in international operations; an understanding of the principles of effective cross-cultural communication; knowledge of the negotiation process; the ability to plan and conduct a cross-cultural negotiation.

Synopsis Transactional analysis of cross-cultural communication; factors affecting the communication process; cross-cultural differences in communication modes including non-verbal cues; role of negotiations in international business; the international negotiation process, strategies and tactics of international negotiators; the use of third parties including interpreters and translators; achieving international strategic objectives through effective communication and negotiations.

Assessment Written (2 individual assignments approx. 1500 words each): 40% * Group oral presentation: 20% * Examination (2 hours): 40%
