Synopsis This subject provides an appreciation of how various principles and tools of microeconomic analysis can be brought to bear to understand and address a wide range of economic problems and issues associated with the internal management and external assessment of enterprises within the public sector. The approach draws heavily on case studies of a wide variety of public utilities and public services including electricity, water, airlines, ports, railways, telecommunications, post, airports and recreation. The emphasis will be on the application of economic analysis in studying the role, pricing, financing, investment, benefit-cost status, economic regulation and performance of public enterprises.
