Telecommunications law, economics and public policy

Not offered in 1995

6 points * One 3-hour session per week * Clayton

Synopsis This subject will provide a systematic understanding of the forces currently reshaping the industry, both in Australia and overseas; examine the ways in which policy and regulatory frameworks are being adapted; analyse the critical issues which the new regulatory mechanisms will need to face. A particular feature of the subject is the emphasis placed on the interaction of law and economics - both in shaping the pressures for change and in informing the principles on which policy makers may seek to base their response. The study of legislation and precedent will therefore be heavily influenced by examination of the underlying economics and economic principles. The subject therefore does not only aim at providing students with a thorough basis in this particular industry; it is also a case study of the integration of economic arguments into an understanding of the legal and regulatory framework.
