Objectives Having participated in this course, students will be able to identify the differences between domestic human resource management and international human resource management; discuss the significant issues in international human resource management; advise on recruitment and selection procedures for international assignments; prepare a comprehensive program to ease the transition of expatriates/repatriates; explain the local human resource practices in at least one country in the Asia-Pacific region; and understand the significance of cultural issues in international assignments.
Synopsis This course provides an overview of the cross-cultural and human resource issues associated with managing global assignments. The topics covered include the impact of culture on the management of global assignments on both the employee and their family; and staffing, training, compensation and other HR issues which are made more complex by their global or international nature.
Assessment Written (assignment): 70% * Oral presentation and class participation: 30%
