Synopsis This subject deals with the issues of autonomy and accountability in the management of government-owned trading enterprises at State and Commonwealth levels. Examples are taken from such fields as telecommunications, energy supply and transport. Aspects of public enterprise management to be considered include the objectives of public enterprises; ministerial and parliamentary control and accountability; financial management; recent government inquiries; industrial and personnel issues; corporatisation and privatisation.
