Advocacy and negotiations

6 points * One 3-hour session per week * Second semester * City * Prerequisite: MBA5250 or MBA6259

Synopsis This subject builds on previous courses in employee and industrial relations and focuses on the development of practitioner skills. Topics will include research skills; preparation and presentation of cases and submissions before industrial relations and other administrative tribunals; negotiation and administration of the collective agreement. Among the specific issues dealt with are bargaining units; grievance and disciplinary procedures; unfair dismissals; strategy and tactics in industrial negotiations; management and union rights; drafting the collective agreement.

Assessment Practical work/seminar participation: 50% * Written (5000-word paper with choice of topic): 50%
